On July 28, BTS member V (Kim Taehyung) made a surprise visit to his former military unit, SDT (Special Duty Team), to attend the discharge ceremony of his immediate junior. Though he’s currently staying in the United States for personal schedules, V flew back to Korea just to show support for his fellow soldier, proving once again his unshakable loyalty and affection.
💬 A Message of Brotherhood from Weverse
Fans on Weverse were the first to spot a group photo of V posing with more than 50 fellow soldiers in front of the SDT dormitory. When a fan uploaded the image, V himself responded,
“When did this get uploaded? That junior is being discharged today.”
His comment sent the fandom into a frenzy, showing his warm connection with the unit even after his own discharge.
🫡 Memories and Respect Built on Blood, Sweat, and Guts
The SDT is one of Korea’s toughest military units. Fellow soldiers shared heartwarming stories about V’s time in service:
- 🏅 1st place in marksmanship
- ❄️ Top scorer in winter urban combat training
- 🩹 Earned the Military Police Excellence Award despite injuries
A senior soldier recalled their final 3km run together:
“We pushed each other to finish way ahead of the special-grade cut-off time. It was pure romance.”
🍜 Generous, Humble, and Truly One of Them
Despite a 10-year age gap with some of the recruits, V acted like a friend, counselor, and older brother. He even donated gym equipment, and treated fellow soldiers to snacks and food during their PX visits and leaves. One soldier called him a
“Hyung who could solve anything.”
💌 V’s Letter to Fans During Service
In his heartfelt message, V once wrote:
“I’m receiving great energy from my fellow soldiers—juniors, peers, and seniors alike. These experiences make me feel reborn. I’m grateful just to be training with them.”

This wasn’t just a simple visit. It was a reminder of the kind of person V is—someone who cherishes loyalty, values shared memories, and returns love with action. His visit left fans, fellow soldiers, and netizens deeply moved.
