BigHit’s First New Boy Group in 6 Years
The wait is finally over — BigHit Music, home to BTS and TXT, has officially announced its newest boy group: CORTIS. Marking BigHit’s first boy group launch in six years, CORTIS is set to make its debut on August 18, with a concept that emphasizes creativity, self-production, and individuality.
A Name with Meaning
The group’s name, CORTIS, is derived from the phrase “COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES”. Six letters from the phrase were rearranged to create a name that symbolizes thinking freely, breaking away from set rules, and creating without boundaries.
According to BigHit, the five members — Martin, James, Joohoon, Sunghyun, and Geonho — embody the meaning of their group name by producing original works that reflect their unique perspectives.
An Unconventional Name Reveal
CORTIS made their public introduction in true Gen Z style. At midnight on August 7, the group launched their official social media channels and dropped a “logo sound” video on TikTok.
The clip, produced by member Martin using his own music software, features the group name on-screen with an otherworldly sound effect, evoking the feeling of a new world opening. This digital-first approach reflects CORTIS’s identity as a “Young Creator Crew” who will handle music, choreography, and visual content themselves.
First Glimpse at the Members
Alongside the “logo sound,” fans got their first official look at the members through a behind-the-scenes video. In the clip, the members are seen filming each other, laughing, and working with various instruments and audio equipment in their studio space.
This intimate footage captures the real atmosphere of their creative process — casual, collaborative, and full of energy. By using their own decorated workspace as the backdrop, they also managed to promote their new social channels in a way that felt authentic and fresh.
The “Young Creator Crew” Concept
Unlike many idol groups with strictly defined positions, CORTIS operates under a shared creation model. All five members are involved in writing lyrics, composing music, choreographing dances, and even shooting and editing videos.
This approach allows them to bring their personal stories into every project, aiming for a level of artistic authenticity that could set them apart in the competitive K-pop industry.
BigHit’s Legacy & High Expectations
BigHit Music’s track record with boy groups speaks for itself. BTS redefined global pop success, topping the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming cultural icons. TXT followed with a successful debut, carving out their own place in the industry.
With CORTIS, BigHit combines over a decade of experience with a fresh, youth-driven vision. Expectations are high, and fans are already buzzing to see how CORTIS will honor — and evolve — the legacy built by their “older brothers” in BTS and TXT.
Countdown to Debut
With just days to go until their official debut, CORTIS’s promotional rollout has only begun. More teasers, music previews, and behind-the-scenes content are expected to be released across their social media platforms, keeping the momentum high.
If their TikTok reveal is any indication, CORTIS is entering the K-pop scene with a strategy that blends authenticity, creativity, and viral potential. For fans hungry for a new sound and a fresh approach, August 18 can’t come soon enough.
